COVINGTON, Wash. — A shoplifting incident turned into a robbery at Covington pot shop Wednesday, authorities said.
It happened at Euphorium marijuana dispensary in the 27600 block of Covington Way.
King County deputies said three young men entered the store, shopped, grabbed about $600 worth of marijuana and then ran away.
The clerk followed the suspects in his car as they drove east on Covington Sawyer Road. As they neared the Remington neighborhood, the clerk heard the suspects fire five or six rounds. Neither the clerk nor his car were struck and the suspects drove away.
Deputies went to the home of the registered owner of the suspect’s vehicle in Kent. While there, a different car arrived with the owner of the suspect’s vehicle inside. The three occupants were detained, and interviews later confirmed that all three were involved in the shoplifting incident, deputies said.
Deputies said they noticed a gun under the seat of the car, and the car was towed to a storage lot while a search warrant was obtained to recover the gun.
The three suspects were arrested and booked into the King County Jail for investigation of robbery because gunshots were fired, deputies said.
