Seattle Public Schools' new start times released

SEATTLE — One week from tomorrow, classes start at Seattle Public Schools.

One of the biggest changes -- for many schools -- is the bell schedules.

Most elementary schools that started between 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. last year are moving their times back drastically, starting in the 7 a.m. hour.

Many high schools are now starting an hour later.

SPS officials say they made the changes based on the sleep rhythms of the students, based on age group.

There are some outliers -- and there is no blanket rule that covers all school schedules.
