SEATTLE — The Seattle Police Department and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration are giving the public an opportunity to dispose of any expired or unwanted prescription drugs as part of National Drug Take Back Day this weekend.
Those interested in disposing of any prescription drugs can do so at any one of the five Seattle Police Department precincts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.
“Last spring Americans turned in nearly 475 tons (949,046 pounds) of prescription drugs at more than 5,800 sites operated by the DEA and almost 4,700 of its state and local law enforcement partners. Overall, in its 15 previous Take Back events, DEA and its partners have taken in almost 10 million pounds – nearly 5,000 tons – of pills,” the Seattle Police Department said.
Police said they are unable to take liquids, needles or sharps.
According to police, the service is free and anonymous and is designed to address the public health issues that unused prescription drugs can bring.
