SEATTLE — The Department of Justice announced today a federal grand jury has indicted a Seattle man for engaging in cyberstalking against a former roommate, their family, the police and prosecutors.

The 35-year-old man, Sumit Garg, was employed as a cyber-security consultant.

The detailed criminal complaint begins with allegations the suspect read his roommate’s diary. The indictment accuses him of using personal information to threaten and torment a former roommate in violation of a court order.

He allegedly continued to threaten multiple people in the victim’s family, including sending sexually explicit messages.

After the Seattle police and the deputy prosecutor began to investigate the threats, the suspect allegedly continued to send death threats.

At one point, Garg allegedly entered the lobby of the victim’s new apartment building and took photos of himself there and used those photos to frighten the victim.

Cyberstalking is punishable by up to five years in prison.
