Seattle chooses scooter companies to receive permits for 2022-23

The permits will allow each company to deploy up to 2,000 scooters around the city.

After careful consideration, the city of Seattle has rewarded three scooter companies operation permits for 2022-23.

Lime, LINK and Bird were all approved to operate in Seattle after providing the city with detailed strategies for how they would address safety concerns.

Lime and LINK are returning applicants, while Bird will be new to the city.

The city said Bird, which operates in over 400 cities, has demonstrated a commitment to safety and sustainability.

Bird will also be supplying their newest third-generation scooters, offering riders longer battery life than their earlier models.

Wheels and Spin were not chosen to continue operation in Seattle; however, the city said it may issue an additional permit to another company in the future.

The permits will allow each company to deploy up to 2,000 scooters around the city.

Riders will continue to have the option of renting shared bicycles from Lime and Veo.
