Cleaning crew finds explosive at Port of Tacoma terminal

Port of Tacoma file

An owner of a facility in a Port of Tacoma terminal called police and asked for a check on possible dynamite in the area on Thursday morning.

A cleaning crew going through a truck came across what appeared to be dynamite on Wednesday, according Tacoma Police Department.

It was found in a truck that had been at the port for about a month. It was a type of binary explosive used in mining in Chile, where the vehicle came from.

The area was considered stable and not a hazard in its current state on Wednesday.

Police told KIRO 7 News that the owner apparently was upset that he was not notified. He asked for a check on Thursday morning.

The Tacoma News Tribune reports that the port was evacuated.
