Renton garage fire spreads to house

RENTON, Wash. — A family escaped a fire that started in the garage and spread to their Renton home.

Crews were called to a report of a garage fire in the 1600 block Glennwood Ave SE at about 6:15 a.m. Thursday.

Firefighters found the building fully involved in flames, which had spread to the house and its attic.

Fire officials said crews were able to quickly attack the flames and contained the fire to one side of the house.

Seven people who live in the home -- four children and three adults -- were able to get out. One person had minor injuries to their hand and face as well as smoke inhalation.

Two pets that were in the home have not been found.

Because of the damage, the home is uninhabitable.  The family is being helped by the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
