Public's help wanted in locating vehicle theft suspect

EVERETT, Wash. — The Snohomish County Auto Theft Task Force (SNOCAT) is asking for the public’s help in finding 25-year-old Kyle Matthews, who is suspected of vehicle theft and eluding police in a stolen vehicle.

Officials said that on Dec. 23, 2018, officers with the Bellevue Police Department investigated a vehicle prowl at the Cougar Mountain Trailhead and found that purses, electronics, jewelry, credit cards and a garage door opener were stolen from the victims.

“When the victims returned home, they found their house had been burglarized and their Audi was stolen,” the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

On Jan. 2, 2019, officers with the Everett Police Department found Matthews sleeping in the driver's seat of the stolen Audi.

“While police were outside of the vehicle, Matthews woke up and is suspected of ramming a police SUV out of the way and fleeing the scene in the stolen Audi. Everett police located the Audi unoccupied a few minutes later and attempted a K-9 track with negative results,” officials said.

In their search of the Audi, Everett Police recovered a stolen firearm, stolen checks, stolen mail from about 100 different addresses, stolen credit cards, vehicle keys, methamphetamine, and a stolen license plate, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.

“Detectives have an arrest warrant for Matthews for taking a motor vehicle without permission, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of controlled substances, malicious mischief, possession of stolen mail, and possession of stolen property,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

Officials said Matthews has ties to the Everett area. He is described as 5 feet, 9 inches tall, wighs about 180 pounds and has brown hair and hazel eyes.
