AUBURN, Wash. — An unmarked police vehicle burned in a fire after it drove over a lit firework on the Muckleshoot Indian Reservation, police said.
Police said that about 11 p.m. on the Fourth of July, Muckleshoot tribal officials asked Auburn police to help shut down the area where people light fireworks near the reservation’s fireworks stands.
A row of police cars turned on their lights and officers used a loudspeaker to announce that the area was closing for the night.
As the cars drove in formation, an unmarked Ford Taurus driven by an officer ran over a firework that was still lit.
The car caught fire and is a total loss.
The officer who was driving the Taurus was not hurt.
