No contract agreement reached for WM recycling truck drivers

SEATTLE — The negotiation deadline for contract talks between recycling union workers and Waste Management is Monday, and no agreement has been reached.

Recycling union workers rallied Saturday in South Seattle after making the decision not to vote on the latest offer by the company.

So far, there are no signs of a lockout or strike, and service is operating as usual.

The drivers are members of Teamsters Union 117.

If there is a lockout and the union strikes, they may be joined by members of the garbage truck driver's union as a show of support.  That means garbage and recycling could soon begin piling up.

"All we're looking for is a fair contract. No one wants to strike. It's going to leave a lot of customers unhappy," said union member Chuck Davis.
