Former first lady Michelle Obama stopped by the Tacoma Dome Sunday for "Becoming: An Intimate Conversation with Michelle Obama" to promote her bestselling memoir.

Obama, who was forced to cancel and reschedule her first planned stop at the Tacoma Dome because of a February snowstorm, talked about childhood and life during her husband’s presidency to the  thousands of people in attendance. Many told KIRO 7 they left feeling inspired and hopeful.

“For eight years, I don’t think I took a full breath because everything mattered,” said Obama. “We couldn’t slip up.”

Ciara, Eddie Vedder and Sue Bird were among the celebrities at the Tacoma Dome who spoke briefly on stage before Obama.

“I’m becoming a woman I dreamt I would be since I was a little girl,” said Ciara. “I’m becoming the woman my kids look up to and know that no dream is too big – you can be anything you want to be if you simply believe in yourself.”

Prior to the event, Obama stopped by a public library in Tacoma where she met with a small group of members from the Balanced Black Girl Book Club.
