Man accused of firing shots at police in Kitsap County arrested after overnight standoff

HANSVILLE, Wash. — After a standoff that stretched from Wednesday night into Thursday morning, SWAT teams arrested a Hansville man who fired shots at deputies and officers.

Kitsap County deputies and Poulsbo Police officers were dispatched to a call of shots fired involving a man standing on a home’s porch in the 35000 block of Little Boston Road Northeast.

When police arrived shortly before 10 p.m., they saw a man in the driveway. As law enforcement approached and identified themselves, the man said he had a gun and ran inside the home.

Moments later, about seven shots were fired in their direction, causing police to take cover behind a vehicle in the driveway and call for backup.

A Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team was called to the scene. Team members positioned an armored vehicle near the home, and tried to talk to the suspect, who had barricaded himself inside.

At one point, the suspect came to the door but then withdrew into the house.

At around 1:30 a.m., SWAT launched flash-bang devices and tear gas into the home to flush the man out.

The suspect then gave up and was taken into custody.
