KIRKLAND, Wash. — Kirkland police officers responded to a call on Monday after a woman allegedly drove her car over another woman in the parking lot of the Salt House church in Kirkland.

Police said around 12:30 p.m. a female driver and her two female passengers returned to the parking lot of the Salt House church after running errands.

The women, who resided in the nearby Helen’s Place shelter, parked the car in a temporary parking spot at the church.

One of the women exited the car and walked to the back to retrieve some items when the driver suddenly drove in reverse, driving over the woman and into the side of the church.

Kirkland Police and Aid arrived at the scene, however the woman did not survive.

After being transported to a nearby hospital for minor injuries, the driver told police she thought her car was in drive when she accelerated.

Officials are investigating whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the incident.
