King County adds more quarantine, isolation sites

KING COUNTY, Wash. — Officials with King County have added more housing options for those exposed to or who may become ill with the coronavirus.

Public Health - Seattle & King County reported the county is creating quarantine, isolation and recovery sites at multiple locations across the county for those “who cannot safely remain in their own homes without compromising the health of other family members or do not have a home.”

The action is being taken to limit the spread of the virus, support those who are homeless and preserve hospital beds for those who are acutely ill.

The county is looking at its own properties and facilities and is also pursuing new purchases.

Right now, the county is repurposing three properties, which include the Arrivals Hall at King County International Airport, a fully self-contained tent at the Eastgate Parking Lot and a motel in Issaquah, which will be leased.

The Arrivals Hall is being used to house men who usually shelter at St. Martin De Porres in Seattle.

The self-contained tent at the Eastgate Parking Lot will have flooring and heat and will also have 24/7 on-site security and health services. It will be available in about a week.

As for the motel, it may be used for expanding medical support for vulnerable populations or isolation for people who do not require significant social support services and some other services.

County officials said they will continue to identify or add properties in all parts of the county to ensure people are supported as this health crisis continues.
