Harsh winter weather keeps Hurricane Ridge Road closed

Hurricane Ridge Road remained closed Sunday

If you plan on visiting Hurricane Ridge this winter, officials with Olympic National Park say you should call ahead.

Officials said Hurricane Ridge Road remained closed Sunday because of poor road and weather conditions.

There was low to no visibility on the upper road.

Park officials said the 17 miles of road presents unique challenges, especially during the winter.

Among the challenges are: drastic elevation change, numerous avalanche paths that cross the road, and exposure to different aspects as the road winds up to 5,250 feet. Often conditions near the top are dramatically different from Port Angeles.

For information, visitors can call 360-565-3130.
