SEATTLE — After being closed for over two years due to the pandemic, galley service is coming back to Washington ferries on Wednesday, April 13. Washington State Ferry will launch the return in four phases, starting with the San Juans and Edmonds/Kingston to follow. After that, all of Seattle’s Coleman dock will offer a reworked galley service.

According to Washington State Ferries, galley service will run minimally until they re-train former employees and hire new staff. When the galleys open, riders will be able to enjoy a fresh cup of espresso and a tasty breakfast sandwich on their way to work for the first time since the start of the pandemic.

Sodexo Vice President Paul Pettas (with the company that services the galleys) says “passengers can expect one new vendor on the menu, Alki Bakery, which will provide apple or blueberry fritters, assorted muffins, upscale breakfast sandwiches, fresh salads, and sandwiches.” Pettas also adds that, “through this relationship we are also bringing back to the operations Seattle Bagel Bakery as our featured bagel program.”

The full list of vendors returning to the galley goes as follows:

  • Alki Bakery
  • Ivar’s Clam Chowder
  • Schwartz Brothers Bakery – female owned or managed
  • Cafe Vita Espresso & Coffee
  • Whidbey Island Ice Cream
  • Lopez Island Creamery
  • Uli’s Famous Sausages
  • Medosweet Farms Dairy
  • CB’s Nuts – female owned or managed
  • Ancient Grains Kitchen – female owned or managed
  • Harvey’s Caramel Corn – female owned or managed
  • Wild Things Skinny Dipped Almonds – female owned or managed

There will be a selection of beer and wine with rotating taps as well, including:

  • Elysian Brewing
  • Ellensburg Brewing
  • Reubens Brewing
  • Bale Breaker Brewing
  • Icicle Creek Brewing
  • San Juan Island Seltzers
  • Rambling Route Cider
  • Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery

Although galleys will begin to reopen on April 13, service will not resume in full all at once, with WSF planning to open in phases. Cash and credit will be accepted.

Sodexo also is now hiring staff members for galleys. Anyone who is interested can apply here.
