SEATTLE — Officials with the Seattle Fire Department and Puget Sound Energy responded to a natural gas leak in Ballard early Wednesday

The leak was near the 5000 block of 14th Avenue NW, located just southwest southwest of the Gilman Playground.

Seattle Fire first tweeted about the leak around 10:25 a.m.

“Crews are working to evacuate the impacted area. Please listen to firefighters and follow their instructions,” a spokesperson for the SFD said in the tweet.

People were asked to avoid the area for about 4 hours.

Around 2:30 p.m., officials said the natural gas line was secured, roads were reopened and people were allowed to return to homes and businesses.
