MAPLE VALLEY, Wash. — The Tahoma School District is warning families after an email exchange meant between teachers at an elementary school went out to dozens of parents and shared sensitive information about students.
Fifty-seven families in two fifth grade classes at Rock Creek Elementary regarding sixth grade math placement received the email on Monday afternoon, according to the school district.
In a letter from the school district, a link to student information was released and included names, school, student ID number, homeroom teacher, absences, math grades and assessment scores, teacher comments and placement recommendations.
“Our initial review indicates few people opened the link,” the letter said.
The school district said the link was active for several hours and is now disabled.
“We apologize for this error and are making changes to ensure this does not happen again,” the letter said.
The school district said it is investigating how it happened.
