WESTMINSTER, Colo. — With National Dog Day coming up on Friday, we’re looking at the favorite dog breeds in Washington.
Doggy day care and boarding chain Camp Bow Wow shared its top five dog breeds in the state and top 10 breeds overall based on its database of nearly 400,000 customers across the U.S. and Canada.
The top 5 dog breeds for Washington are:
- Labrador Retriever
- German shepherd
- Golden Retriever
- Australian shepherd
- Goldendoodle
“Labs are very versatile and have a friendly, outgoing temperament,” said Camp Bow Wow’s animal health and behavioral expert, Erin Askeland. “They are great companions for both adventurous outdoor activities and relaxing at home. All of this makes them great family dogs.”
Camp Bow Wow’s list of top 10 breeds overall:
- Labrador Retriever
- Goldendoodle
- German shepherd
- Golden retriever
- Australian shepherd
- Pit bull terrier
- Beagle
- Husky
- Boxer
- Labradoodle
“While kennel clubs share annual lists of the most popular breeds based on purebred dog registrations, Camp Bow Wow’s top 10 list includes purebreds, mixed-breed dogs (listed by their primary breed) and popular crossbreeds, including two doodles,” the company said.
The doggy day care franchise also compiled a list of its top 10 dog names overall for 2022:

- Bella
- Charlie
- Cooper
- Lucy
- Daisy
- Max
- Milo
- Sadie
- Buddy
