Cougar spotted in Aberdeen, police give warning

Police in Aberdeen are alerting residents to a cougar after it was seen on a surveillance camera Monday morning trying to kill a cat and a deer.

The footage comes two days after a cougar attacked a child in Leavenworth, which is roughly 230 miles away in Eastern Washington. Follow this link to see details about the child attacked by a cougar in Leavenworth. The cougar in that case was found and killed.

In the Aberdeen case, the cougar was spotted about 12:40 a.m. in the 100 block of South Chehalist Street.

"Aberdeen officers observed an adult cougar attempt to kill a cat," a department spokesperson wrote on Facebook. "The cat escaped and a short time later the cougar attempted to take down a deer (see video). The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife was notified. This is a heads up for people that reside in that area."

Cougar in the area of 100 South Chehalis Street

This morning around 00:41 AM in the 100 block of South Chehalist Street, Aberdeen Officers observed an adult cougar attempt to kill a cat. The cat escaped and a short time later the cougar attempted to take down a deer (see video). The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife was notified. This is a heads up for people that reside in that area.
