Community donates supplies, protective equipment to Bellevue first responders

BELLEVUE, Wash. — The city of Bellevue is doing its part to make sure its first responders are outfitted properly to deal with COVID-19 cases.

On Tuesday, several people drove up to Bellevue City Hall to drop off supplies and protective equipment for a donation drive.

As agencies grow desperate for protective equipment, Liam Li showed up nearly an hour before Bellevue's donation drive to give away thousands of masks.

Bellevue's Fire Chief Jerome ‘Jay’ Hagen explained the help is crucial.

“Right now first responders are having a really big challenge getting a mask, eye protection, gowns and gloves. We just unloaded several thousand masks,” Hagen said.

A Bellevue Police Department spokesperson said the donation drive secured enough equipment for police and fire, so supplies could go to other city agencies.

Bellevue has had three donation drives, and thousands of items have been received.
