Mother Nature’s fantastic floral fireworks have returned to Mount Rainier National Park.
From now through early fall, wildflowers can be viewed in several areas of the park, according to Dee Peterson, president of Visit Rainier, a tourism website for the park.
“Visitors travel from around the world to explore the mountain during wildflower season,” she said. “The alpine flowers bloom at different elevations around the region at different times. Visitors can make several trips now through the early fall and see something new every time.”
The Skyline Trail at Paradise and Summerland on the route to Sunrise are popular hiking trails that feature wildflowers. However, visitors also can view wildflowers from their car in the meadows surrounding Tipsoo Lake at the top of Chinook Pass, and the meadows surrounding Sunrise and Paradise, according to Visit Rainier.
According to the park’s most recent wildflower report, more than 20 wildflower species are currently in bloom at Paradise, including subalpine buttercup, avalanche lily, glacier lily, magenta paintbrush and Jeffrey’s shooting star.
