2 Maple Valley children subject of South Dakota Amber Alert found safe

Two children from Maple Valley who were the subjects of an Amber Alert in South Dakota Monday night have been found safe.

On Friday, police said 38-year-old Paul Brown left his Maple Valley home with his two children, 3-year-old Chance and 1-year-old Hunter Brown. Paul Brown failed to return home.

They were last seen in Joliet, Wyoming. According to police, they were last seen heading east and Paul Brown made a purchase in Spearfish, South Dakota.

On Monday night, the Amber Alert was canceled after the children were found safe and are being assessed.

According to police, a vehicle they were in was stopped by highway patrol near Kimball, South Dakota. Paul Brown was detained.

Chance has a complicated and life-threatening medical condition, he is legally blind and has a feeding tube in his stomach. He has complex medical issues requiring urgent care.

Police said Paul Brown did not have the supplies or training to provide the level of care that Chance needs.
