Man fatally struck by boat while wakeboarding

KING COUNTY, Wash. — A 42-year-old wakeboarder has died after being struck by a boat at Hunts Point near Bellevue on Tuesday.

At 4:35 p.m., police and fire crews were called to the 4300 block at Hunts Point Road for a report of a person who had been injured in the water about 100 yards from shore.

When first responders arrived, they found out that a 42-year-old man had been wakeboarding off a 22-foot ski boat. Mercer Island police said the boat, which was being operated by a 24-year-old man, struck the wakeboarder. The 42-year-old man suffered injuries that were fatal.

Investigators said the boat operator showed no signs of impairment.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the man’s cause and manner of death.

The investigation is ongoing.
