Giant prehistoric rock found at Everett construction site

The rock is what's known as a glacial erratic, a boulder moved to a location by a glacier, and then dropped when the glacier retreated.
Construction crews in Everett are trying to figure out how to move a 300,000 pound prehistoric rock that is larger than an SUV.

EVERETT, Wash. — Crews were working on a new hotel last week when they hit the rock.

The Herald reports the 19 by 10 foot rock, a glacial erratic, could be up to 2 million years old.

Construction crews are trying to decide whether to break the rock into smaller, lighter pieces or give it to the city for historical purposes.
