Gas prices still sky high at some Seattle pumps

While most gas stations are selling regular gas in the $2 or $3 range per gallon, KIRO 7 found two gas stations still listing more than $4 per gallon.

SEATTLE — In Ballard, Spirit Gas was selling regular gas at $4.32 per gallon on Friday. Manager Thomas Bockman said, "Our gas has no ethanol, which means it's just pure gas. It has none of the additives or anything."

Bockman said older cars with carburetors benefit from gas without ethanol, because ethanol eats up carburetors and destroys little rubber hoses.
At the high price for pure gas, Bockman said they don’t turn a profit.
“We make no money on our gas. The only way we make money is on the repairs that we do,” Bockman said.
He said their loyal customers are often owners of luxury cars who keep coming back for pure gas.
In Madison Park, a Shell gas station there was selling regular gas for $4.29 per gallon.
KIRO 7 asked for an explanation, but a clerk there did not know who set the prices. No manager was available.
Outside, customers said they pump gas there for the convenience, because it’s the only gas station in their immediate neighborhood.
“I always go down to empty, and I just need extra gas. So I fill up to about halfway, then I drive to a less expensive place,” said Julie Lumpkin.
Another Madison Park resident, who went by her first name Allison, said, “I’m sure the convenience is robbing us blind here in Madison Park. But it’s also kind of a pain to drive too far.”
KIRO 7 found most gas prices in Seattle currently range from $2.72 to $3.59 per gallon.
