First snow of the season falling over Snoqualmie Pass

SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. — The first snow of the season is falling over Snoqualmie Pass.

Thursday morning, traction tires are advised on I-90 and trucks with oversized loads are prohibited.

There are gusty winds but the road is still dry in most places.

KIRO 7’s Jeff Dubois said he didn’t see snow until a few miles before the summit area early Thursday morning, where about a half-inch had fallen.  Dubois found snow and ice on I-90 there.

Meteorologist Morgan Palmer said over the weekend, it could be tough traveling over some mountain passes.

From Thursday through Saturday evening, heavy snow will  fall in the mountains above 4,000 feet.  Four to 12 inches is forecast for the North Cascades, with Mount Baker getting the most, Palmer said.

The central and south Cascades will get two to six inches at Stevens Pass, with lesser amounts forecast for Snoqualmie Pass.
