Wenatchee high school evacuated after 'highly suspicious' device found

WENATCHEE, Washington — Eastmont High School in Wentachee was evacuated Friday due to a potential bomb threat, the Eastmont School District said.

Bomb squad officials said a device found at the school looks highly suspicious. A photo of it was being sent to Yakima for further analysis by bomb experts.

The school was secured by law enforcement, the district said.

The Wentachee World reported that the device was found in a planter in front of the school just before noon. The school went into lockdown soon thereafter.

Students from the high school were evacuated to the junior high.

Some high school students who drove left their cars at the school and will have to pick them up later. The district said it would announce on its website when law enforcement has given the all-clear to return to the high school.
