AUBURN, Wash. — A 23-year-old man was arrested after shooting at two police officers in Auburn for no apparent reason, police said.
According to Auburn police Assistant Chief William Pierson, an officer was preparing to stop a suspicious man in the 100 block of 11th Street S.E. at 1 a.m.
As the officer was about to exit his vehicle, the suspect shot at the officer, striking the driver's side windshield with shotgun pellets.
The suspect then fled on foot to the 1200 block of A Street S.E. where he shot at another police officer, who had been called to the area to assist in the initial call. That officer was not injured, but bullets did hit the driver's side door of his patrol car.
The officer returned one round but did not strike the suspect. The suspect fled the second location but was found hiding in a yard in the 100 block of 12th Street S.E.
He was taken into custody and police recovered the suspect's shotgun.
The Auburn Police Department Investigations Unit collected evidence at the scene.
