Centralia man says he was attacked with sledgehammer over rap music

Justin Moon has a shattered nose, two black eyes, and bruises all over his body after he said he was attacked by his neighbor with a sledgehammer.

CENTRALIA, Wash. — Justin Moon has a shattered nose, two black eyes, and bruises all over his body after he said he was attacked by his neighbor with a sledgehammer.

"I remember looking up and he was standing right there and he had a hammer in his hand," said Moon.

Centralia police arrested Morris Keith on Sunday for assault, burglary and threats to kill.

Moon said Keith showed up with a sledgehammer in hand while he and his girlfriend were having a barbecue at their home on Sunday.

Keith lives across the street from the couple.

"The next thing I know I see the neighbor coming over with a sledgehammer and I didn't think he was actually going to use it," said Kimberly Brooks, Moon's girlfriend.

Moon said that Keith was complaining about the music he was playing, specifically because it was rap music.

"He said some vulgar stuff about the type of music I was listening to," said Moon.

Then he added, "I said listen to whatever man, I listen to all types of music."

Shortly after, Moon said Keith swung the sledgehammer at his groin area and then his face.

"The next thing I know I see him swinging, hitting him in the nose, " Brooks added, "Somehow I got between them and I told him to leave and he had me by the throat and told me to shut the (expletive) up."

Moon was rushed to the hospital and was later released.

"You shouldn't attack a person just because of rap music," said Brooks.

"It's just uncalled for any part of that," said Moon.

Keith was arrested and is in jail being held on $25,000 bail.

He'll be arraigned on Thursday.
