Thieves target Little League ballpark

SNOHOMISH, Wash. — Thieves stole a set of bleachers from the North Snohomish Little League, then tried to steal two more sets.

“They disassembled it and took all the aluminum,” said Little League President Jeff Kallstrom.  “When people steal from us it’s literally stealing right from the kids.”

On Sunday morning, parents found dirt patches where the bleachers should have been.  One was stripped for its aluminum benches.  Two more were dragged to the edge of the property, but were ultimately left by the bench burglars.

The destroyed bench is worth $1,200, not a small amount of money for the non-profit league.

The bench theft perhaps has the most impact on baseball parents, who raise money and fix up the fields for their children.

“As a group we raise a lot of money to take care of our fields, and we spend a lot of time out here,” one parent said.

The theft also comes at a bad time.  The league is hosting important All Star tournaments, and this was supposed to be Snohomish’s time to shine.

Local scrap yards have been alerted, and the league has setup a fundraising page to recoup the loss.
