Big 5 standoff suspect has long rap sheet

BURIEN, Wash. — The man accused of a burglary attempt and standoff at the Burien Big 5 Sporting Goods has a long criminal history and is a suspect in a home invasion from the day before.

Auburn Police said Ricky Marvin Arntsen is a suspect in a case where an apartment door was kicked in on Monday.

King County detectives told KIRO 7 they're also investigating a report that right before the Tuesday incident in Burien, Arntsen asked around to see if a different store sold weapons.

Deputies also confirmed that Arntsen tried to escape after his arrest on Tuesday.

Arntsen is in jail awaiting charges for smashing a minivan through the front door of Big 5 to steal rifles.

He was arrested after a four hour standoff.

Arntsen has an extensive criminal history.

In 2007, after he was suspected of robbing a man at gunpoint in a motel, Arntsen led police on a chase.

Two officers shot him after he used his vehicle to ram a police car.

At that time, according to the Department of Corrections, Arntsen had already been in prison twice.

A jury convicted him of Second Degree Murder for shooting a man in a Seattle apartment building in 1993.

He was sentenced to 24 years.

He served just under 11 years when his conviction was reduced to manslaughter, following a state Supreme Court ruling that affected scores of cases.

Arntsen could have a bail hearing Thursday at the King County Jail.

He's expected to be transferred to federal custody to face federal weapons charges.
