Attempted bank robbery suspect caught at Fred Meyer

BOTHELL, Wash. — The 46-year-old Mountlake Terrace man was taken into custody after being cornered in the Lynnwood Fred Meyer, located in the 4600 block of 196 Street SW.

Witnesses report that the man barged his way into Heritage Bank Friday at about 12 p.m. and attempted to rob the safe.

The man fled the bank on a bike with an undisclosed amount of cash.

While Snohomish County deputies were responding to the bank, they received reports of a suspicious looking van nearby.

Deputies attempted to stop the van – but the driver fled.

The driver eventually slid into a Fred Meyer parking lot, jumped out of the van and ran into the store.

Witnesses inside the store pointed officials in the man’s direction.

The man was taken into custody in the grocery section of the store. A store employee advised police that the man had tossed what appeared to be a gun on the floor while fleeing through the store.

Police say there is evidence that indicates the driver is the same man who robbed the Bothell bank.

The man was booked into the Snohomish County Correctional Facility on one count of Robbery First Degree.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI is investigating.

Authorities with the FBI say they have reason to believe this suspect is the same person wanted in connection with a bank robbery in Lake Forest Park on Thursday.
