Mariners magic number to clinch a postseason berth down to 1

After a walk-off victory Thursday night at T-Mobile Park, the Seattle Mariners’ magic number to end the longest playoff drought in professional sports is now at one.

Before the end of the season, the Mariners need to either win one game or the Baltimore Orioles need to lose one game.

If this happens, the Mariners would clinch their first postseason berth since 2001.

On Friday, the Baltimore Orioles play at the New York Yankees at 4:05 p.m. and the Seattle Mariners host the Oakland Athletics at 6:40 p.m.

With only seven games left in the season, projections at FiveThirtyEight place the odds of the Mariners reaching the playoffs at greater than 99%.

Tickets for prospective postseason games went on sale to the general public yesterday and have started to percolate onto the secondary market, with some tickets going for four times their original value.

Tickets for remaining regular season home games are beginning to sell out too, with Friday’s night game with the Oakland Athletics at T-Mobile Park selling out just before 11 a.m. Friday.
