RENTON, Wash. — Pro Bowl linebacker K.J. Wright is ready to play in his first game of the regular season Sunday against the Lions in Detroit.
Wright had fun during his news conference as he playfully reintroduced himself.
"My name is K.J. Wright. (I’m) from Olive Branch, Miss., (and) this is my eighth year here. (I) graduated from Mississippi State and I am glad to be back,” Wright said.
"A lot of people say he's one of the most underrated linebackers in the league. I think that's probably true,” said Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, who goes up against Wright every day in practice.
Wright, who returned to practice Monday after sitting out the first seven weeks of the season following knee surgery, will finally be reunited with Bobby Wagner on Sunday.
"I believe when I left, Bobby had a lot on his plate,” Wright said. “He had to make certain calls that I usually make. He had to set the front (and) check back with the DBs (defensive backs). Now if you have two guys out there doing it together, that will just be really good football."
Wright, who is entering the final year of his contract, said he took out an insurance policy just in case he gets hurt.
"If you do get hurt, you do have this to fall back on so you're not just worried about money,” Wright said. "(I) just want to make sure that you handle things and put things in place to where if something does happen, you can take care of yourself."
Seahawks veteran tight end Ed Dickson, who had been dealing with a quad injury, is also scheduled to make his debut Sunday.
"If it's blocking, if it's catching (or) if it's special teams, I'm just chomping at the bit to get out there,” Dickson said. "I'm not going to go out there and play 90 plays, but I'm going to go out there and contribute how many plays I play."
