UPDATE: Woodinville restaurant reopens after investigation

UPDATE: Mi Tierra restaurant in Woodinville reopened after being closed for a cleaning.

King County Public Health was investigating a possible illness outbreak from the restaurant in March. But the county’s food inspection online database does not list a problem as a result of the investigation.

Mi Tierra general manager Alexis Magana said that while the business did close for a few days to thoroughly clean the establishment, “the investigation found nothing and we have since reopened and operated for normal business everyday since.”

ORIGINAL TEXT: A Woodinville restaurant is closed after some customers were sickened by a norovirus-like illness.

King County Public Health is investigating an outbreak of gastroenteritis with nausea, vomiting and diarrhea associated with Mi Tierra Restaurant, located at 13408 NE 175th St.

People from three unrelated meal parties reported symptoms consistent with norovirus after eating at the restaurant on March 10 and 11.

As many as 21 people may have been sickened, though not all were directly interviewed by Public Health.

The general manager of the restaurant said the food inspector noted it may have come from one of their workers who was sick, but it also could have not been food related and said other nearby restaurants had people who were sickened as well.

Health officials received the first report of illness on Monday, March 13 with later reports on Tuesday and Wednesday.

As part of the investigation, environmental health inspectors visited the restaurant on Wednesday.

The restaurant is working with Public Health and voluntarily closed on Thursday for thorough cleaning and sanitizing.

Health officials will return to ensure that the facility has been decontaminated before the restaurant reopens to the public.
