What to know if you're a Seahawks fan taking the ferry

SEATTLE — State Ferries is adding troopers and Coast Guard personnel to ride on ferries after Friday night's preseason Seahawks game.

Ferry officials say last year, three workers were assaulted on a postgame run to Bainbridge Island by intoxicated passengers.

They don't want that repeated and also remind passengers the captain can deny passage to anyone who poses a threat.

To accommodate all the fans, the ferry system is adding an 11:30 p.m. sailing Friday from Seattle to Bremerton which will carry 1,200 walk-ons.

"That will help get people back home from the game after they beat up on the Broncos," said WSF spokesman Ian Sterling.

The ferry system also pledges there will not be a repeat of an incident before a preseason game last year when an overloaded ferry had to return to the dock in Bremerton to kick passengers off because of a counting problem.

Since then, Sterling said the ferry system has improved its counting techniques.

Sterling suggests passengers traveling to the game buy a return ticket in advance to expedite boarding.
