PARKLAND, Wash. — NOTE: A previous version of this story had incorrect information about all classes being canceled at PLU. All classes are being held except for ones held in the Rieke Science Center.
The cold weather is likely to blame for bursting pipes overnight around the Sound, and burst pipes have canceled some classes at Pacific Lutheran University Tuesday morning.
Shortly after 2 a.m., crews were called to the Rieke Science Center for leaking water after sprinkler heads broke in one of the labs.
The school has canceled all classes in the Science Center until at least noon Tuesday.
The water has been shut off and crews have cleaned up most of the mess.
At 10 a.m., administrators will determine if classes after noon will need to be canceled.
Shortly after midnight, pipes also burst on the University of Washington's Campus.
Water spilled out of McMahon Hall, which is one of the student residences that houses undergrads.
It is not known if any students had to leave the building until the pipes are fixed.
In Seattle's Bitter Lake Neighborhood, water damaged a Dollar Tree store near Aurora Avenue.
It's likely that the leak was also from pipes that were damaged from freezing temperatures.
There was water on the walls of the building and it was leaking into a nearby parking lot.
