BELLEVUE, Wash. — The cars crashed on 148th Avenue Northeast and Northeast 31st Way at 2:10 a.m. Thursday.
Bellevue police said the driver of an Acura SUV was heading south on 148th Avenue Northeast when it crashed into a Ford Taurus that was turning left into an apartment complex. The Acura was estimated to be traveling well over the posted speed limit of 40 mph, according to investigators.
The Taurus was hit on the passenger-side door. Police said the high-speed impact resulted in the two drivers and one passenger being transported to Overlake Medical Center.
A 55-year-old man who was a passenger in the Taurus is from Bellevue and had a broken arm. The 57-year-old driver of the Taurus is from Redmond and was evaluated for minor injuries. The 29-year-old driver of the Acura is from Bellevue and was evaluated for injuries.
Both drivers were arrested on vehicular assault charges and transported to the King County Jail. Police said a vehicular assault charge generally includes elements of recklessness and/or impairment by drugs or alcohol. Investigators said they believe that drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
The southbound lanes of 148th Avenue Northeast were closed for four hours while police investigated.
