Woman develops coronavirus second time after getting all-clear

A woman who had recovered from COVID-19 has been diagnosed with the coronavirus a second time.

Meredith McKee was admitted to Texas Health Presbyterian hospital in Dallas, Texas.

She says she would not wish the illness on her worse enemy, KDFW reported.

Her first time with coronavirus, she was not hospitalized but recovered at home. She donated plasma to help others recover, after testing positive for antibodies to the virus.

But last week, four months after recovering, she tested positive a second time. This time she had high blood pressure and a headache. The previous time, she had a dry cough that would not stop, KDFW reported.

Doctors say that a patient could develop the illness a second time, but it is uncommon.

Her doctors said that it may have gone dormant but reemerged.

Doctors also say it could mean that the virus is taking a long time to leave but the patient cannot infect others.

NBC News said similar cases could be fragments of coronavirus that can not replicate. Doctors said after sailors on the USS Theodore Roosevelt that had recovered tested positive a second time, according to NBC News.

The test results may also be due to the type of tests used.
