University of Alabama head football coach Nick Saban leads players, coaches in social justice march

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — A host of student-athletes and coaches marched in solidarity across the University of Alabama campus Monday afternoon, protesting social injustice and calling for social change.

The march, led by University of Alabama head football coach Nick Saban, began at 4 p.m. from the Mal Moore Athletic Facility and concluded at the infamous “schoolhouse door” at Foster Auditorium. The iconic threshold is where Alabama Gov. George Wallace stood on June 11, 1963, to symbolically demand an end to federal desegregation of state schools.

Alabama running back Najee Harris issued the call Friday night for fellow athletes and coaches to join Monday’s push for social justice.

“We want all Alabama athletes to join us. This isn’t a fan day … this isn’t a football game … this is about lasting CHANGE!,” Harris tweeted.
