SHERMAN OAKS, Calif. — A tree trimmer was found dead in a Sherman Oaks neighborhood Saturday, hanging upside down about 50 feet above the ground, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
LAFD responded just after noon local time after receiving reports of an unconscious man suspended in midair, KTLA reported.
Firefighters and search-and-rescue crews used a truck-mounted ladder and a rope-and-harness system to safely remove the man from the tree, the TV station reported.
Once rescuers unhooked the man and put him on the ground, the medical team determined that he could not be resuscitated, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, KNBC reported.
It was not immediately clear how long the man had been suspended from the tree, and his cause of death remains under investigation, the TV station reported.
According to KTLA, there were live electric wires near the tree where the man had been working, but it is not known at this time if electrocution or electric shock played a role in his death.
