Tom Brady reportedly will star as himself in movie he is also producing

It’s a natural move for Tom Brady, who has been featured so many times on NFL Films productions.

The former NFL quarterback, who announced his retirement earlier this month after 22 seasons, will play himself in “80 for Brady,” a football-themed road trip film that will begin production this spring, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Brady, who won six Super Bowl titles with the New England Patriots and one with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, will also produce the film, which will also star Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Rita Moreno and Sally Field, the entertainment outlet reported. They will play four friends who take a “life-changing trip” to watch Brady play in Super Bowl LI, according to Variety.

That is the game that Brady and the Patriots overcame a 28-3 deficit in the third quarter and rallied to defeat the Atlanta Falcons 34-28 in the first overtime game in Super Bowl history.

Fonda, Field and Moreno are Academy Award winners, while Tomlin was nominated for an Oscar.

Paramount Pictures acquired worldwide rights to the project from Endeavor Content, according to Variety.

In March 2020, Brady founded 199 Productions, ESPN reported. His company will produce the project along with Academy Award winner Donna Gigliotti, whose credits include “Hidden Figures,” “Silver Linings Playbook” and “Shakespeare in Love,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The script is based on a draft by Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins, who cowrote the 2019 movie “Booksmart,” the website reported. It will be directed by Kyle Marvin, who starred in “We Crashed” and was the co-writer and star of the 2019 film, “The Climb,” Variety reported. The other co-writer for the project is Michael Covino, according to the entertainment outlet.

Brady led the Buccaneers to a 13-4 regular-season record in 2021 and a Super Bowl LV title after the 2020 season. He officially retired on Feb. 1.

He has not commented publicly about the film.

The quarterback threw for an NFL-record 84,250 yards and 624 touchdowns during his career. He spent his first 20 seasons with the Patriots, where he won Super Bowl titles after the 2001, 2003, 2004, 2014, 2016 and 2018 seasons.

Brady appeared in a record 10 Super Bowls, winning seven times.
