Thousands of people inquire to become 9-year-old’s permanent family

OKLAHOMA CITY — All he wants is a family to call his own. Now, 9-year-old Jordan may soon get his wish.

The child, whose last name was not released, had told KFOR “I hope one of y’all pick me” during a story about adoption.

The station checked in on Jordan and his brother who were originally living in separate group homes when the station first spoke to the brothers three years ago. Jordan’s little brother, Braison, was adopted. But Jordan is still living in a group home, and he told KFOR that he doesn’t get to see his brother much.

The only thing he wants now is to have a family to call his own. And to him, it doesn’t matter what the family looks like.

“I would just like to have a family to call Mom and Dad or just Mom or just Dad. I really don’t care,” Jordan told KFOR.

But Jordan’s now-viral video may help make that dream a reality.

The Oklahoma Department of Human Services said it has been overwhelmed with families wanting to welcome the child who has been in foster care for six years into their homes, the “Today” show reported.

The agency had more than 5,000 web inquiries from across the country.

But Jordan isn’t the only child looking to move out of foster care and into a family.

The DHS said there are many children who are not placed in adoptive homes often because of physical or behavioral issues, “Today” reported.

If you’re interested in opening your home to a child in the foster care system, get in touch with your local human services department or go to AdoptUSkids.org.
