Shark pulls 10-year-old boy from fishing boat in Australia

A shark plucked a 10-year-old boy from a fishing boat off the coast of Australia.

Authorities said the boy was on a fishing expedition off Stanley, on Tasmania's northwest coast, with his father and two other men when the shark came up and pulled the boy from the boat, CNN reported.

"The boy's father jumped into the water at which point the shark swam off," officials said.

The boy, who was wearing a personal flotation device, suffered cuts to his arm, chest and head, officials said. He was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition.

It is the latest attack in Australia where there have been five fatal incidents already this year. The country typically averages about three fatal shark attacks a year. The last time there were five deaths from shark attacks was in 2014.

On Tuesday, Anika Craney, 29, was bitten by a shark while swimming, CNN reported.

A 15-year-old surfer died Saturday after a shark caused severe injuries to his legs.
