Seneca Snack Co. has recalled two brands of apple chips that may be contaminated with salmonella.
Clancy’s Cinnamon Apple Chips sold at Aldi and Seneca Cinnamon Apple Chips sold through Amazon have been recalled.
“Seneca was notified by an ingredient supplier that it shipped one lot of ingredients containing cinnamon that has the potential to be contaminated with salmonella,” the company announced via the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The recalled product details are as follows:
• Clancy’s Cinnamon Apple Chips: 2.5 ounce package, individual package codes - 26JUN2021 and 27JUN2021.
• Seneca Cinnamon Apple Chips: 0.7 ounce package, UPC No. 0 18195-70140 4, individual package code - 26JUN2021.
• Seneca Cinnamon Apple Chips: 2.5 ounce package, UPC No. 0 18195-70100 8, individual package code - 28JUN2021.
According to the FDA, healthy persons infected with salmonella “often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.” Severe cases can result in ailments such as arterial infections, endocarditis and arthritis caused by salmonella entering the bloodstream, the agency stated.
No illnesses related to the potentially contaminated items have been confirmed.
