Keefe Conroy, 44, of Buckhannon, was charged with cultivation of marijuana, WBOY reported.

Conroy was arrested after West Virginia State Police, using a helicopter over Upshur County on Wednesday, found 16 plants, according to WOWK. The aerial search was part of the state police’s marijuana eradication detail, the television station reported.

After being read his rights, Conroy allegedly told troopers the plates were his. He added that he grew the plants because “he didn’t trust drug dealers” and “didn’t like pain pills,” according to WKBN.

Troopers also found marijuana inside Conroy’s home, the television station reported.
