PHOENIX — At least three people are dead, including the suspected shooter, after gunfire erupted in Phoenix, Arizona, authorities said.
According to KSAZ, Phoenix police said two officers and three other people also were wounded in the incident, which occurred shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday near Interstate 17 and Deer Valley Road. Officers responded to a reported shooting and were struck by gunfire when they arrived at the scene, KTVK reported. The suspected gunman retreated and was found dead, authorities said.
“Once again, two Phoenix police officers have been shot,” Chief Jeri Williams said in a news conference late Sunday, according to KSAZ. “Thankfully, those two officers are recovering and are talking.”
The officers’ injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, the department wrote on Twitter.
“Two citizens died at the scene of the shooting,” the department tweeted. “Three others were injured. The suspect was also fatally shot. This is a very complex scene with dozens of people to interview.”

It wasn’t immediately clear what prompted the shooting, KNXV reported. Police have not released the names of the suspect or victims, according to KSAZ.
