Dispatchers received several calls last week when multiple people were stuck on Mad River in Clark County and needed help getting out of the water, WHIO reported.

“No, I’m actually trying to see where you’re at, because you’re a little liar,” the dispatcher can be heard saying in the 911 call obtained by WHIO through a public records request.

While multiple calls came in to the 911 center during the incident, other dispatchers worked to help the group stay calm.

“I know this is very hard and I know you guys are worried. I have a lot of people that are trying to get in that water safely to get to you guys, OK?” a dispatcher said on one such call, WHIO reported.

With dispatchers trying to determine where the stranded group was, one caller said that they were by Forest Lake. It was in response to that comment that the dispatcher now on leave made the comment to one of the people stranded, calling them a “little liar,” WHIO reported.

“The same day, after a quick initial review of the complaint, the Sheriff’s Office initiated an internal investigation into our dispatching response to the 911 call and placed a dispatcher on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation,” Clark County Sheriff Deb Burchett told WHIO in a statement.
