NASCAR announces plan to allow limited number of fans at 2 upcoming events

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — NASCAR announced plans to allow limited attendance by fans at select venues, beginning with races in Florida and Alabama over the next two weeks.

In a news release, NASCAR said Sunday’s Dixie Vodka 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway and the GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway on June 21 will allow fans into the grandstands.

Officials for the Dixie Vodka 400 race will invite up to 1,000 South Florida service members as honorary guests, while Talladega Superspeedway will allow up to 5,000 guests in the frontstretch grandstands and towers for the GEICO 500, NASCAR said in its release.

Fans at both races will not be allowed to access the infield at the tracks and must maintain 6 feet between one another, NASCAR said. Fans will be screened before entering the track and will be requred to wear face coverings.

“We have tremendous respect and appreciation for the responsibility that comes with integrating guests back into our events,” Daryl Wolfe, NASCAR’s executive vice president, said in a statement. “We believe implementing this methodical process is an important step forward for the sport and the future of live sporting events. The passion and unwavering support of our industry and fans is the reason we race each weekend and we look forward to slowly and responsibly welcoming them back at select events.”

Protocols and procedures for fans planning to attend the races can be found at Homestead-Miami Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway.
